Project: BYWAYS, THE ESPLANADE, WOOLACOMBE Client: Mr. & Mrs. R Aked Contract Sum: Undisclosed Conversion of Redundant Bed & Breakfast to form Dwelling with Holiday Let Annex Byways is a prominent building in an imposing setting on the Esplanade. It sits within the Conservation Area, Heritage Coast and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The clients brief was to create a family home with an income generating letting annex. The existing property was made up of many small rooms and externally was very dated with castellations, failed render and an asbestos 'slate' roof. We completely re-modelled the interior to provide the letting unit on the ground floor served by a new separate entrance and the main dwelling on the upper 2 floors to benefit from the amazing views over Woolacombe Bay. Both units were based around open plan living and finished to a high specification. The major elevational alterations were the removal of the castellations, complete re-rendering, replacement of all windows and the introduction of a glazed gable and balcony to the roof and the creation of a double height fully glazed entrance lobby.
